Dystopica

This week Brian is joined by Becky and Rob from Dystopica.

Dystopica is a heavy metal band from Connecticut, US. Dystopica was formed in 2019 by Becky Brideau. The band’s lineup is Becky Brideau on vocals, Rob Muller on guitars, and Erich Bender on drums. Dystopica has a distinct sound blending hard rock, heavy metal, thrash metal, and progressive metal.  The band’s music includes melodic, harmonizing guitar riffs and powerful female vocals. Influenced by classic heavy metal, Dystopica brings back qualities of heavy metal from the 70’s and 80’s mixed with some modern and progressive elements.

Due to Covid, Dystopica has not had the opportunity to perform live shows yet as a band. However, all the members have performed live in previous bands. Guitarist Rob Muller has performed with previous bands at numerous venues including The Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie, NY and has opened for several well-known bands including Warbringer, Dying Fetus, Kittie, Enforcer, Moonspell, and Cattle Decapitation. Drummer Erich Bender has performed with a previous band at multiple local venues in CT including the Webster Underground in Hartford, CT. Vocalist Becky Brideau has performed with a previous band playing at local festivals and venues in CT including the Toyota Oakdale Theater in Wallingford, CT at a Live Nation event. As a band Dystopica is planning on performing live shows starting in the fall of 2022.

Jim Hustwit - Composer/Producer - Larp Music
12 May 2022
Jim Hustwit - Composer/Producer - Larp Music
This Week Brian is joined by Jim Hustwit.
Do you remember the Crazy Frog song? Jim was the person responsible for getting it to #1 in the Charts back in 2005. Jim often jokes that he is now making reparations for crimes against music.
Jim's music journey began as a child sitting in assembly watching a fellow student play Wombles of Wimbledon on the clarinet. Amazed that somebody could recreate a well known song, Jim begged his mother for a clarinet. Once he hit his teen years he began playing electric guitar in an effort to emulate the sound of Guns n Roses.
In 2011 Jim quit his day job in marketing to pursue a career in music. After touring and releasing an album he realized that the live performance aspect of music wasn't for him and he was more comfortable behind the scenes producing and composing.
Fast forward to today and Jim runs Larp Music, where they do bespoke music composition and their clients include BBC, Universal, and Apple.
Tune in to hear all about Jim's fascinating and inspiring story.

Lucy Kruger and The Lost Boys
07 April 2022
Lucy Kruger and The Lost Boys

This week Brian is joined by Berlin based South African Musician Lucy Kruger of Lucy Kruger and The Lost Boys.

To encounter Lucy Kruger’s music is to witness a singular journey of constant reflection that is producing an ever-widening arc of creativity. 8th April 2022 sees the release of Teen Tapes (for performing your own stunts) on Unique Records, a culmination of the Tapes Trilogy.

In June 2021, the Berlin-based South African artist released the third Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys album, ‘Transit Tapes’ (for women who move furniture around), which serves as a follow up to her 2019 release, ‘Sleeping Tapes for Some Girls’.Since first embarking on the very specific process of recording music - with an early album that she recorded soon after finishing her arts degree in the Eastern Cape town of Grahamstown - Kruger has approached her artistry with the care of an archaeologist seeking all the interwoven elements that make up the historical whole. Whether the now finite suite of albums with André Leo as Medicine Boy (More Knives, 2014; Kinda Like Electricity, 2016; Lower, 2018; Take Me With You When You Disappear, 2020), or her solo work, Kruger has engaged in a slow, steady exploration of what it takes to make music that’s universal, that endures, that draws listeners in, even after countless listens.
