Amathole FM’s format is 60% music and 40% talk. The primary broadcast language is IsiXhosa, with occasional switches into English.
Amathole FM is a digital commercial radio station in Amathole District Municipality. It features local news, sport, youth, children, GBV issues, education, music and driven by Christian values and teaching.
Amathole is one of the 7 districts of Eastern Cape province of South Africa. Over 90% of its 892,637 people speak isiXhosa. "Amathole" means calves, the name of the mountain range and forest which forms the northern boundary of the district.
The district contains the following local municipalities:
Mnquma Municipality, Mbhashe Municipality, Amahlathi Municipality, Ngqushwa Municipality, Great Kei Municipality and Raymond Mhlaba Municipality.
