LetsTalkValue: about quality in healthcare delivery with Dr Yael Heher

About

We don't welcome often enough healthcare leaders in quality roles to this podium. This is your unique chance to listen to a Chief Quality Officer of a major health system in the US. Her views, experiences, perspectives and novel ideas apply to any system that strives to improve outcomes for patients whilst keeping an eye on affordability and efficient cost structures - another definition for value and value-based care models (VBHC).

We discuss how the experience measure (PREMS) is key to be linked to outcome measures (PROMS) because just like in a real-life setting, we generally value what we like and conotate as a good & pleasant experience. Same for a hospital stay that none of us chooses to do in the first place. But wouldn't it be nice - as a breast cancer patient for example - to be seen as a OneStopShop under 1 rooftop rather than meandering multiple touchpoints in a hospital, repeating the same over and over again.

In this episode, we explore some 'revolutionary' - or at least 'innovative' thoughts around remodeled health care delivery options and how the measure of patient safety can contribute on this journey.

Lastly, value and quality are achievable when we know what to measure in a risk-stratified population-health approach - ie by grouping patients sharing similar needs to similar cohorts that cover both clinical and societal determinants of health (SDOH).
