In this episode of Fit Fathers Fellowship, I break down the idea of the minimum effective dose—doing the smallest amount of focused, intentional work that still moves you forward.
It’s a concept Tim Ferriss helped popularize in The 4-Hour Body, and it has shaped the way I think about training, especially in this season of fatherhood.
I love seeing dads take on Ironmans, ultras, and huge physical challenges. But that’s not the phase of life I’m in right now.
My goal is simple:
Get as strong, fit, athletic, and capable as possible with the limited time I actually have.
We talk about why three focused full-body workouts can go a long way, why intensity and consistency matter more than spending hours in the gym, and how daily movement can fill in the gaps.
I also share how the same principle applies to our faith.
While reading Charles Swindoll’s So, You Want to Be Like Christ?, I was reminded that we can easily fall into the trap of thinking that if we don’t have 30–45 minutes for Bible study or prayer, it isn’t worth doing.
But maybe you don’t have 45 minutes today.
Maybe you have four.
Four focused minutes in Scripture, prayer, or meditation on God’s Word is far better than waiting for a perfect window of time that never comes.
In this episode:
• The minimum effective dose for busy dads
• Why shorter workouts can still produce great results
• How to train hard without living in the gym
• Why perfection often leads to inconsistency
• How to simplify your faith without making it shallow
• Building a “minimum” that keeps you moving forward in fitness, faith, and fatherhood
You do not always need more time.
Sometimes you just need to get more intentional with the time you already have.
Train hard. Stay faithful. Be present. Keep moving forward.
