The Hot Box is presented by Donald Helme.
The best of Irish Jazz past and present, new releases, visiting musicians.
Donald presented Jazz Alley, Ireland’s number one jazz show, on RTE Lyric FM from the station’s first week on air until the end of 2015 when the show was axed. It was he says “intended to appeal to jazz fans of all hues”, including those, and there are many of them, who don’t really know much about jazz but are interested in getting to know.
Of The Hot Box, Donald says the hope is that it will satisfy the huge demand for a nationally available, hosted programme dedicated to just one musical form, something that no longer exists in Ireland. It covers the best in Irish recorded jazz, set it in the wider context of the international language that is jazz. Emphasis will be on enjoyment. And a little bit of jazz history, especially as it applies to Ireland, thrown in.
“I am not a musician, and have never pretended to be anything other than a lifetime fan with loads of experience and hopefully, good ears.”
There will be a new Hot Box every 2 weeks here on Jazz Ireland.
