Dale of Shadows »Press Kit«

What are some of the themes explored on this album?

On »Lichtboten«, we explore deep, transcendental themes. At its core, the album delves into metaphysics and cosmology – its tracks try to uncover the hidden mysteries of existence, the supernatural and the limits of reality, creating a sonic-philosophical journey beyond earthly spheres. As always, drawing from the vibrant cosmology of Aventuria (the world of the German fantasy RPG »Das Schwarze Auge«, The Dark Eye), the music reflects the divine, the mystical and the arcane. We explore themes of light versus shadow, enlightenment versus peril or divine law versus heresy, particularly through references to gods and religious orders.

What are some of your influences for this release? What were you listening to, watching, reading, thinking about when writing these songs?

Our musical influences are varied, as always. The analog ethereal synths and ambient tones draw heavily from Cosmic & New Age Music – like Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze and Vangelis or progressive & experimental synthesizer music by Jean-Michel Jarre or even film scores and casual nods to Ambient Doom & Esoteric Synth. Literary and mythological influences stem from the »Das Schwarze Auge«, of course, Aventurian mythology is directly linked to our favorite lore with references to its gods, rituals and cults. The album’s mystical warning, visual design and metaphysical dualisms are inspired by Hermeticism, Gnostic texts and all sorts of strange and esoteric metaphysical philosophy.
