NELSON MANDELA DAY - 18 July 2024

Nelson Mandela Day serves as a global call to action for individuals to recognize their ability to make a positive impact in their communities. This year, Volunteer Champions from the University of Johannesburg's UJ Community Engagement collaborated with the Africa Food for Thought organization to honor Mandela's legacy of compassion and service. They dedicated a day in Roodeport's EMhlangeni settlement, distributing essential food items and warm blankets to those in need. The initiative was marked by a spirit of unity and giving, reflecting Mandela's belief in the power of collective action to drive change. Volunteers from the university worked tirelessly alongside members of Africa Food for Thought, ensuring that the provisions reached as many families as possible. The gesture not only provided immediate relief but also aimed to inspire hope and solidarity within the community. This effort underscores the ongoing commitment of the University of Johannesburg and its partners to social responsibility and community upliftment. By engaging directly with underserved populations, they continue to embody the ethos of Mandela Day, fostering a legacy of empathy and altruism that extends beyond a single day of service. #AFFT #UJCE #MandelaMonth #UJCOMMUNITYENGAGEMENT
