CBC Radio One is a public news radio station broadcasting to all Canada. As a public Canadian radio station, it is commercial-free and aims to inform, enlighten and entertain the general public. The station is available on AM and FM to 98 percent of Canadians and overseas over the Internet, and through mobile apps.
1936 was the year of birth of CBC Radio. In 1974 the station stopped running commercials. In the early 1990s, the CBC began offering selected programs on the Internet and on 1996 it already featured audio streaming of both CBC Radio and CBC Stereo. In 2010, due to its 4.3 million listeners each week, it was considered the largest radio network in Canada.
