Bush Radio 89.5 -

Bush Radio is the oldest community radio station in Cape Town, having started its broadcasts illegally in the 80s. The station was founded by a group of activists wishing to provide a source of independent content during the Apartheid. It was officially launched in 1993, broadcasting to Cape Town using the frequency 89.5 FM ever since.

From the start, the station offers content in English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa covering a wide range of issues such as labour, gender, LGBTIQ, human rights and basic health care. Its line-up also features news reports with the most relevant developments affecting the communities, interviews and music shows, in which it plays music submissions by local artists as a way to support them.

Bush Radio actively supports the communities it serves by providing information on job opportunities and entrepreneurship as well as offering media training through internships.

On its website, listeners can find more information about the events promoted and sponsored by the radio station and access its online live streaming service to listen live to its broadcast anywhere in the world.
