Africa is home to all kinds of highlife music. Before its gradual but steady transportation to the new world and its influence on global music, it was a strong thriving force. American popular genres such as Jazz, Negro Spirituals, Hip Hop, House Music, Country, American Pop, Reggae, Dancehall, Calypso, Soca, Samba, Salsa, Dembo and other world music genres were prominently influenced by African folk roots and other community music making experience. It's the popular music of the most of the countries on the continent even though different countries have different designations for it. They all mean the same-original music composed by wise musicians with elements of authentic folk rhythms, principles,, beats, lyrIcs, instrumentation etc . sometimes impacted by world globalization in musical culture.
Africa has billions of ethnic groups each speaking rich dialects with very special folk music traditions.
Highlife music became popular according to our on -the- ground research through the West African country of Ghana, then known as the Gold Coast because of the availability of rich minerals of the same name. Before Independence from the Colonial power of Great Britain, Gold Coast the then name, had its capital city with many exclusive wealthy people, known as the high class who lived high-life style at exclusive suburbs. These communities needed entertaining bands for special occasions and weekends. Local casual cultural groups and military regimen then had to devise means of making a quality music for that class...........
