About the station
RADIO SILENCE 6 : SHOEGAZE 1990 1994 - POST ROCK 1992 1996 - DREAM POP 1990 1996
Shoegaze is a subgenre of indie and alternative rock characterized by its ethereal mixture of obscured vocals, guitar distortion and effects, feedback, and overwhelming volume. It emerged in Ireland and the United Kingdom in the late 1980s among neo-psychedelic groups who stood motionless during live performances in a detached, non-confrontational state with their heads down. This was because the heavy use of effects pedals meant the performers were often looking down at their pedals during concerts.
Dream pop is a subgenre of alternative rock and neo-psychedelia that is characterized by its preoccupation with sonic texture and atmosphere as much as melody, including characteristics such as breathy vocals, use of guitar effects, and dense productions.
Post-rock is a form of experimental rock characterized by a focus on exploring textures and timbre over traditional rock song structures, chords, or riffs. Post-rock artists are often instrumental, typically combining rock instrumentation with electronics. The genre emerged within the indie and underground music scene of the 1980s and early 1990s. However, due to its abandonment of rock conventions, it often bears little resemblance musically to contemporary indie rock, borrowing instead from diverse sources including ambient, electronica, jazz, krautrock, dub, and minimalist classical.
This station is designed not only to play rock music, but to review the different rock trends from 1978, when the post-punk era began, to date. Join us in this cultural and informative adventure on the history of rock in the last 40 years.
