Nova Scotia flooding, AfD wins German state election, Trump envoys in Kyiv, and more

Three Nova Scotia counties remain under a state of emergency. Cape Breton and the eastern mainland were drenched with a month's worth of rain in just two days. Floodwaters have washed out countless roads, bridges and driveways. Residents are being told to stay home, while emergency crews assess the damage.

Also: In Germany, the ultra-nationalist Alternative for Germany party (a.k.a AfD) has surged to first place in a state election. It fell short of a majority, but today's vote in Saxony-Anhalt is still a notable departure from the last 80 years of German politics. 

And: U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held talks in Kyiv today with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. It was their second stop on a diplomatic tour, just a day after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The talks are aimed at finding a pathway to peace between the two countries - after months of stalled negotiations.
