A transcript of this week's update is below.

Thanks Nachum!

Straight ahead on the last Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports update of the 2025 calendar year, Varsity Hockey sees two First Round Bye tickets punched, TABC moves one step closer to the same in JV Hockey, Magen David pulls into the driver’s seat in JV basketball and DRS triumphs in the three-way battle in Varsity Basketball. All that and more, good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.

We’ll start out in Varsity Hockey where DRS took three wins on the week, edging out HANC 2-1, blanking HAFTR 4-0 and dominating North Shore to improve to 12-1 and clinch a First-Round Bye. The only thing left for the Wildcats now is to capture the division, which they can do with a win over HAFTR in February or any other HAFTR loss or tie in their 3 other remaining games. Meanwhile HANC rebounded from their loss with a 2-1 win over Rambam to clinch a playoff spot. Out West, MTA took two wins on the week, defeating Ohr Yisroel 3-1 and blanking JEC 2-0, as the 3 teams battle for the last spot in the West playoff picture. The third permutation, Ohr Yisroel and JEC will take place tomorrow night in JEC and Frisch clinches a first round bye remaining undefeated with 3 games left on their calendar.

JV Hockey started off the week with a shocking upset as MTA thrust itself back into the playoff mix with a 1-0 overtime victory over Frisch, dealing a severe blow to the Cougars’ chances at a First Round Bye.  Frisch is currently tied in points with SAR, but behind on wins and are now out of range of TABC who took two wins in the last three days, defeating DRS 4-3 in overtime on Jack Salomon’s game winner, his second of contest, and a win over Barkai last night. TABC can clinch the 1 seed with a win over either the Sting or Flatbush or an SAR loss to Flatbush at the end of January.

Moving over to Varsity Basketball where the top 3 teams in the East, DRS, Magen David and Flatbush did battle at the top of the East, all facing each other in a 6-day stretch. The Wildcats jumped ahead of the pack, taking double-digit wins over both squads to improve to 11-1, the win over Flatbush especially important as it avenged their only loss on the season. In the third contest, Magen David won the first Battle of Brooklyn of the season taking a 2-point win over the Falcons. Flatbush would grab a win anyhow, defeating 4th place North Shore by 10. Out West, TABC splits the week, taking a 52-50 win over Heschel, but dropping a 48-34 decision to Hillel. The win over Heschel plus Kushner’s 60-59 win over JEC last night helps TABC become the second team in the West to clinch a playoff spot.

Finally, in JV Basketball, the anticipated matchup between undefeateds in the East, Magen David and Flatbush wasn’t even close. The Warriors dominated most of the way, winning 68-35 to stay undefeated atop the East. Both teams will meet up again on the other side of the break. Also in the East, YDE’s 46-32 win over HANC rounded out the East playoff picture, locking in Magen David, Flatbush, North Shore, DRS, HAFTR and YDE. In what order remains to be determined. Out West, Hillel had made things interesting by knocking off TABC 53-49 to enter the First-Round Bye competition. Frisch, at 8-1 is assured of a bye as TABC and Hillel will need to square off again in a few weeks.

And that was your Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, Happy New Year, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
