Thanks Nachum!
Welcome to the official kick-off of the 2026-2027 Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update season. The Yeshiva League is a week old, but we’ve already seen rivalries, tight battles and surprising results. Straight ahead, a Long Island rivalry kicks off JV Hockey, Frisch begins their varsity hockey title defense, and the Hillel Heat stay scorching hot in Varsity Basketball. All that and more, good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
We start off in Varsity Basketball, where the Hillel Heat built off of their Magen David tournament victory by taking down TABC and MTA to jump out to a 2-0 record. Hillel’s next test will come next Wednesday when they take on the Ramaz Rams in an early season battle with major standings implications. Out East, HANC, Barkai and Magen David each earned their first “W”s of the year.
Only three games on the JV Basketball slate so far, with Kushner knocking off JEC, and Rambam earning a split with a win over Westchester and a loss to YDE.
Both seasons should ramp up in earnest over the next two weeks.
Over to hockey where the DRS-HAFTR rivalry added another chapter with DRS blanking the Hawks 5-0 at home. The Hawks would rebound in their home opener last night taking a 2-1 victory over SAR, the game winning goal with under 2 minutes to go in the 3rd period for HAFTR. In other action, Flatbush made it 2-0 with a win over Rambam and gear up for a huge challenge tomorrow night when they welcome the defending champion Frisch Cougars to the Flatbush rink.
In JV hockey, DRS and HAFTR was the formal kick-off of the season, and it became a hotly contested battle for the first two periods, as the game was 1-1 entering the 3rd. But in the final period, the home team Wildcats erupted for 4 goals in a 5-1 win. The Hawks had their home opener last night against SAR, as well, and just like the varsity contest, it was a 1-goal final, however, unlike varsity, it was the Sting emerging victorious 3-2 behind two goals from Menahem Miller. Defending champion TABC kicks off their title defense tonight against Solomon Schechter.
And that was your Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
