A transcript of this week's update is below.

Thanks Nachum!

We have hit June and the Spring Championships have begun. Straight ahead on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, lots of Cougar action in girls sports, including another notch in the long streak of Frisch JV Soccer and Varsity hockey runs against familiar foes, and playoffs begin outdoors. All that and more, good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.

We start off with Soccer where the first champions have been crowned and it’s a team that has gotten used to wearing gold. For the 5th time in a row, the Girls JV Soccer Championship belongs to the Frisch Cougars. Frisch reigns supreme once again after defeating SAR last Tuesday night, knocking off the Sting for the 3rd year in a row. Their varsity sisters, though, will not have the opportunity to perform the same feat, due to their defeat at the hands of Ma’ayanot last week, but, instead the Rapids, the 2024 champions, will square off with Heschel for the Varsity crown

In Girls Hockey, for the 3rd year in a row, the Frisch Cougars will square off with the Ramaz Rams for the league championship. The Rams advanced to this Sunday’s final with a 7-0 win over HAFTR last night on Long Island. Ramaz and Frisch tied in their only meeting this year as the Rams look to put an end to Frisch’s 4-year championship streak, including 2 in a row over the Rams.

On the Diamond, the playoffs have begun as well. Boys varsity softball quarterfinals kicked off last night with two Long Island teams punching their tickets to the semis. 3rd seed Darchei Torah blanked Frisch 7-0, while a budding rivalry between MAY and Netzach Hatorah saw MAY upset the defending runners-up 4 seed Knights 9-6 to advance. Darchai awaits the winner of Thursday’s matchup between YDE and Magen David and MAY will take on the winner of Friday’s bout between Flatbush and Hillel. Girls Varsity Softball is half-way to its semifinal as Bruriah trounced HAFTR and Frisch outlasted SAR 7-5 to advance. The other two participants will be determined tonight as Flatbush travels to Ma’ayanot and Hillel hosts SKA.

Finally, in Baseball, the West 2 and 3 seeds advance as Frisch outlasted Heschel 5-3 and SAR defeated DRS 4-1. They’ll await the winners of Magen David-TABC and Hillel-HANC respectively.

Speaking of HANC, the 2025-2026 New York Junior High Hockey champions look to prove that they are the kings of the Junior High world in just over 10 days at the 2026 Martin Weiselberg Memorial Hockey Tournament. This year’s event, coming up on June 14th in HAFTR features HANC, HAFTR and six other schools, in their one-day battle for the top prize in all of Junior High hockey. In addition, the schools will be locked in an off-court battle to raise $10,000 for Hatzolah.
