Thanks Nachum!

The Yeshiva League playoffs are underway as we head into the middle of February, here on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update. Straight ahead, two of six hockey contests are through with a common theme, no surprises yet in either JV or Varsity basketball, and a rare night featuring two schools squaring off in two different sports. All that and more, good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.

JV and Varsity Hockey only had one game each played on the week and both resulted in shutout wins for the home squad. In Varsity Hockey, West 3rd seed TABC advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4-0 shutout win over Kushner. TABC will advance to take on East #2 seed HAFTR, leaving the winner of the remaining West matchup, happening tonight between Ramaz and Ohr Yisroel to head to DRS. Also happening tonight, both East matchups, #6 Rambam at #3 YDE and #5 HANC at #4 Magen David, both games originally scheduled for last night but rescheduled to this evening.

In JV Hockey, 3rd Seed HAFTR dominated Ramaz 5-0 in HAFTR to move on the semifinals where they will play SAR. SAR earned the 2 seed with a 2-0 win over Flatbush to end off the season, officially dropping DRS from the 2nd seed to the 4th seed and Frisch to the 5th which will have both squads squaring off in DRS tomorrow night. The two sides met up 10 days ago with DRS walking away victorious, 2-1. Awaiting the winner will be a semifinal date with top seed- TABC.

In Varsity Basketball, 3 of the 4 first-round contests have been completed. Out West home squads SAR and Hillel advanced, defeating TABC and MTA, respectively. Max Weiss led the Sting with 20 points in their win as the 3rd seed will get set to play East 2nd seed Flatbush next Thursday night, while Abe Franco’s 18 led 4th seed Hillel who have a date with DRS in their quarterfinal. Out East, 4th Seed North Shore blitzed HAFTR 57-37 and will await tonight’s matchup between 3rd seed Magen David and 6th seed HANC in a rare event seeing both the varsity basketball and hockey matchups being played in the same building between the same teams on the same night, in order to determine who will travel to West top seed Frisch and West 2 seed Ramaz.

Finally in JV Basketball West 4th seed JEC outlasted SAR in a nailbiter 49-48 to move on to the quarterfinals, while the two East contests were not nearly as close, with DRS dismantling HAFTR and North Shore upending YDE. Up next for North Shore will be Frisch, while DRS will head for a date with TABC.

And that was your Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
