A transcript of this week's update is below.

Thanks Nachum!

As discussed on last week’s update, the fallout from the snow pushed several games beyond the season’s end date, and so, the JM in the AM Sports Update waited an extra day for the season’s conclusion. Straight ahead, the vast majority of postseason matchups have been determined and scheduled. We’ll bring you up to date on what’s on tap, and what’s still hanging in the balance. All that and more, good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.

We’ll start out in Varsity Basketball where the 2nd bye seed came down to Saturday night in Brooklyn, where Flatbush avenged a two-point loss to the Magen David Warriors with a 70-68 victory over Magen David. With the margin of victory tiebreak even, the second bye seed in the East would be settled by Strength of Schedule, which fell heavily in Flatbush’s favor meaning that the Falcons will join #1 DRS in the quarterfinals, while Magen David will drop to the 3 seed, and set up a meeting with the 6 seed HANC Hurricanes, The other East matchup will see North Shore as the 4 seed host 5th seed HAFTR following North Shore’s 57-53 win over MTA to jump into an 8-6 tie with the Hawks, with the Lions holding the tiebreak. Out West, Frisch and Ramaz already entered the week knowing they would be #1 and #2 respectively. The first round was decided in a slew of contests, one that saw SAR defeat Frisch to earn the 3rd seed, but also saw them lose by 9 to TABC, who will be the Sting’s first-round opponent as the West 6th seed tonight in Riverdale. The other West matchup will also see a pair of 8-6 teams, MTA and Hillel squaring off to complete the first round.

In JV Basketball, Magen David crushed Flatbush to stay undefeated in the East and earn the 1 seed, while Flatbush will be the 2. North Shore, the 3 will host YDE, the 64-56 loser of last week’s battle with HAFTR to fall to the 6 seed. HAFTR, instead will be the 5 seed and will travel to #4 DRS on Monday night. Out West, TABC and Frisch finished 1 and 2, with Hillel and JEC hosting first round games as the 3 and 4. JEC will square off with SAR tomorrow night, while Hillel needed to wait until the last game of the season, where Heschel completed the home and home sweep of MTA to boot Ramaz from a playoff spot and take the West 6th seed.

Moving over to Varsity Hockey where the West was thrown into a frenzy by SAR’s 2-1 win over Frisch. As a result, SAR holds the #1 seed in their control tonight when they square off with Kushner. A win would give the Sting the top spot and relegate Frisch to the 2. Behind them is TABC in the 3 spot who will await tonight’s matchup to know whether they will face Kushner or, if the Cobras can upset the Sting, Kushner will jump into the 5 spot and TABC will face Ohr Yisroel. Whichever winds up in the 5 spot will travel to Ramaz, who winds up in the 4th position out West. Meanwhile, in the East, DRS polished off the East with a 3-0 win over HAFTR, with both ending off the regular season at 1 and 2. Both first round-matchups will take place in Brooklyn Monday night as 3rd seed YDE will square off with Rambam and 4th seed Magen David will face last year’s runner-up HANC in the 5th spot.

Finally, JV Hockey also awaits one final matchup tonight as SAR and Flatbush meet up. The result will determine all matchups as the 2, 3, 4 and 5 spots are still in flux. Currently, TABC has finished the season undefeated at 9-0-1 and will take the one seed. DRS and HAFTR are tied in the 2 seed, however, due to DRS’ recent win over Frisch, DRS holds the tiebreak in strength of schedule, however, that will change if SAR wins tonight, tilting the tiebreak in favor of the Hawks, but, will also push SAR up above both teams giving the Sting the 2 seed, HAFTR the 3 and DRS the 4. Frisch, currently in the 4 spot will drop to 5th as long as SAR picks up at least 1 point, and can potentially set up a rematch with DRS. Meanwhile, Flatbush saw its playoff hopes fly the coop last night with a 5-1 loss to Ramaz who, at 5-5, will enter the playoffs as the 6th seed, their first round opponent to be determined.

And that was your JM in the AM Sports Update, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
