The owner of a Dilworth home that was destroyed during a fire that investigators say was intentionally set was arrested in Chicago, records show.
Michael Edward Barnette was taken into custody as a fugitive from justice on May 10, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office in Illinois. A spokesperson for the sheriff's office said any further questions related to the case would be answered by the Chicago Police Department. The Charlotte Fire Department said Barnette was in the process of being extradited to North Carolina.
Multiple agencies responded to a fire and report of an explosion at a home on Lombardy Circle on May 2. It took a team of 60-plus firefighters to get the flames under control. Arson investigators said the fire was intentionally set. A fire department spokesperson said details regarding the explosion are unavailable due to the ongoing investigation.
