EP 322: Why are Singapore's leaders going to earn even more?

This week we debate the recent pay raise for Singapore's political leaders. Why does the country pay its leaders this much in the first place? Part of it is attracting people who could earn far more elsewhere, part of it is keeping the system clean.

But here's the thing. As NSFs we were paid a fraction of that and told it was our duty to serve the nation. So why doesn't that same argument apply both ways? We also explain why that gap may actually be necessary.

We also talk about how our own interest in politics started, comparing what we saw growing up in Tamil Nadu and Malaysia, before bringing it back home to Singapore.
