Episode 92: Introduction to Uttar Kanda – Sages pay homage to Ram

In our previous episode, we came to the end of Yuddha Kanda, the sixth chapter of the Ramayan. We witnessed the defeat of Raavan, the return of Sita, and Ram's long-awaited return to Ayodhya after fourteen years of exile. We saw the joyful reunion of the four brothers and their mothers, and Ram's grand coronation as the rightful king of Ayodhya. We also saw Ram honor Sugreev, Vibhishan, Hanuman, and all those who had stood beside him through the great war. And finally, we witnessed the beautiful moment when Sita gave Hanuman her precious necklace of pearls, and Hanuman revealed that for him, Ram lived within his heart. With Ram now seated upon the throne, Ayodhya entered the age remembered as Ram Rajya, a time of peace, justice, prosperity, and Dharm.

In today's episode, we remain in Ayodhya after the coronation. Great sages from the four directions arrive at Ram's palace to honor the victorious king. They praise him for defeating the mighty warriors of Lanka, but speak with wonder about Indrajit, Raavan's son, who had once defeated Indra himself. Ram is surprised that the sages place Indrajit above even Raavan and Kumbhakarn and asks them to reveal the secret behind his extraordinary power. What follows is a remarkable revelation about Lakshman. Ram learns that for fourteen years, Lakshman had sacrificed sleep, food, and even the simple act of looking upon Sita's face, all while silently guarding Ram and Sita. And for the first time, Ram understands the true depth of his brother's devotion and sacrifice.
