God Cares for You in the Chaos | Amos 9.1-10

What does God's care for His people mean when life is filled with suffering, chaos, decay, and death?

In Amos 9:1-10, God warns of judgment, but He also promises that He will not totally destroy the house of Jacob. He will preserve a remnant of His people.

For Christians, this promise is deeply encouraging. Because we have faith in Jesus Christ, we are children of Abraham and beneficiaries of God's covenant promises. Even when life is marked by sickness, suffering, brokenness, loss, and death, God's love and care for His people remain certain.

In this exposition of Amos 9, we consider why Christians can rejoice and be encouraged even in the midst of a chaotic and broken world. God's people are not abandoned. He preserves His people, cares for them through their suffering, and ultimately brings them into the inheritance He has promised.

This passage also helps us understand how the Old Testament promises concerning Israel, Abraham, the promised land, and the remnant find their fulfillment in Christ and His church. It is an important example of Biblical interpretation and hermeneutics—reading the Old Testament in light of God's unfolding covenant promises and their fulfillment in Christ.

We may experience destruction and chaos around us, and our earthly bodies will eventually decay. But for those who belong to Christ, death itself leads to something better: being with the Lord, and ultimately resurrection life in the new heavens and new earth.
