Being a "Good Church Member" & Eternal Exile (Amos 9.1–10)
"The Gospel for Living," with John Musgrave, M.Div.
Is your confidence resting in your church attendance, baptism, or outward religious affiliation? In this expository segment from Amos 9:1–10 (and drawing from Jeremiah 7), we examine God’s sobering warning against covenant presumption and false assurance.
Just as ancient Israel pointed to the temple and believed judgment could never touch them, many today fall into the trap of trusting in church membership or external rites rather than true, saving faith in Jesus Christ. God promises to sift His people, separating those who merely bear the external marks of the covenant from those with regenerated, circumcised hearts who truly obey the gospel (2 Thessalonians 1:7–9).
Join us as we trace redemptive history from Old Testament Israel to the New Covenant, showing why true safety in the midst of divine judgment is found solely in union with Christ.
