Virginia Governor Race: Cannabis Takes Center Stage | TDR Cannabis in 5

About

At a recent Virginia gubernatorial debate, cannabis became the main point of contention between Democratic frontrunner Abigail Spanberger and Republican nominee Winsome Earle-Sears. Spanberger said she supports creating a regulated adult-use cannabis market, arguing the state should stop pretending prohibition works and use tax revenue to benefit local communities. Earle-Sears, while supportive of medical use, opposed recreational legalization — warning that workers using cannabis could “blow everything up” and claiming legalization would harm families and workplaces.TDR Cannabis in Five presented by Dutchie explains the broader context behind the debate. Virginia legalized personal possession in 2022 but never launched a retail market. Lawmakers have passed two separate bills to regulate cannabis sales, both vetoed by Governor Glenn Youngkin. That has left Virginia with one of the largest unregulated cannabis markets in the country, billions in untaxed sales, and no clear path for legitimate small business operators. The outcome of this year’s election will determine whether Virginia finally establishes a legal retail market or remains stalled — keeping the current gray-market system in place.#VirginiaCannabis #CannabisElection #CannabisPolitics #VirginiaGovernor #CannabisDebate #MarijuanaLegalization #CannabisPolicy #VirginiaElection2025 #CannabisRetail #GrayMarketCannabis #CannabisRegulation #CannabisTaxRevenueWant to see last week's recap?   • Trump's Drug Czar Nominee Dodges Cannabis ...  Want to see more Cannabis Reform videos?   • What If Cannabis Legalization Fails? | TDR...     • Why Virginia Could Be the Next Big Cannabi...     • Marijuana Market Meltdown Michigan's Tax D...  Want to be updated on Cannabis, Small Cap, AI, and Crypto?
