In the hills of Kentucky, at the oldest monastery still operating in North America, locals walked toward the towering Abbey of Gethsemani...
A few months earlier, Fr. Michael Casagram asked Michael Snellen, a recent convert, "What brings young people to the faith?" The younger Michael was unsure. Determined, however, to figure out the solution to the declining vocation crisis, and the general lack of spirituality in the West, Michael Snellen recalled the influences in his own life: friendship, community, and being exposed to the depths of Christianity. Thus his answer, which he gave a few months after the question was asked, was to start a group that has all those things and ultimately makes people aware of the monastic lifestyle.
After seeing the attraction this first meeting had, Michael is now dedicated to proposing the idea to other monasteries and convents. Hopefully this is the start of a movement.
