Jehu Destroys the House of Baal & Paul Reasons of Righteousness in Chains | Day 186

What happens when God purges corruption to rescue the future of His people? Today on Day 186, we watch institutional layout changes shift rapidly under the hand of divine justice. In 2 Kings, Jehu executes a ruthless, sweeping purge of Ahab's descendants and traps the worshipers of Baal inside their own temple, wiping out the pagan cult from Israel. Meanwhile, in Judah, a brave aunt hides a baby prince named Joash from an assassination massacre, preserving the royal line of David from total extinction.

In the book of Acts, the venue changes to a formal Roman courtroom in Caesarea. High-ranking accusers hire a smooth-talking lawyer to label the apostle Paul a dangerous plague. Standing in chains, Paul delivers a masterclass defense before Governor Felix, refusing to compromise the truth. Instead of begging for freedom, Paul turns the tables—boldly reasoning about righteousness and self-control until the governor himself trembles with fear.

Today’s Scripture:

📖 2 Kings 10:1–11:21 – Jehu systematically eradicates the seventy sons of Ahab and trickily gathers all prophets of Baal into their temple, slaughtering them and turning the site into a latrine. In Judah, wicked Athaliah seizes the throne and attempts to murder the entire royal family. However, baby Joash is hidden in the Temple for six years by his aunt. Jehoiada the priest eventually launches a coup, crowns the seven-year-old Joash, and orders Athaliah executed, restoring covenant worship.

📖 Acts 24:1–27 – The high priest Ananias and an orator named Tertullus bring formal charges against Paul before Governor Felix, calling him a ringleader of a pestilent sect. Paul flatly denies causing a riot, asserting his clear conscience and hope in the resurrection. Felix delays the trial for two years. During this time, he and his wife Drusilla listen to Paul speak. As Paul reasons about righteousness, self-control, and the coming judgment, Felix becomes alarmed and leaves Paul imprisoned to curry favor with the Jews.

📖 Psalm 80:8–19 – Asaph uses the imagery of a vine brought out of Egypt, lamenting that its walls are broken down and wild beasts devour it. He begs God to look down from heaven, visit this vine, and restore His people by the hand of the man at His right hand.
