A first in the Career Progression and Parenthood series. PARENT GUILT. This phrase resonates with all parents. This sense of guilt is oftentimes down to the fact that parents feel that being at work means that they are not being fully productive parents. This is entirely untrue and today I shift this mindset with my special guest Camilla McGill, founder of My Parenting Solutions. Camilla is a very successful business owner and coach and has over 20 years experience in this field. She says, it takes methodical and analytical approaches in dealing with parent guilt that plays a huge part in a parents feeling comfortable and confident that they are doing a great job. But parents also face backlash and judgement from managers who assume they cannot work effectively in their job whilst managing their children and tantrums at home. And as a result, such individuals are denied opportunities for growth and promotion as they are seen to be risk to the organisation. Dealing with tantrums and parent stresses doesn't at all mean that your performance at work takes a hit, but why do some employers still think this in 2021?! Camilla and I talk about some fantastic methods parents can use to manage tantrums at home so that you can go into work feeling confident that you are a great parent. This episode will REALLY change your thinking as an equal opportunities employer and as a working parent. Enjoy.
