Is Nepal ready for the next crisis? In this episode, Prem Singh Basnyat, military historian, researcher, and retired Brigadier General, breaks down Nepal's national security, national interests, and the challenges that shape the country's security priorities. What does national security actually mean, and what falls under it? How is national security different from national interest? We explore how Nepal has approached national security over the years, the country's security priorities during the Maoist insurgency, and the national security issues Nepal faces today. The conversation also examines foreign interference in Nepal, the protection of national interests, and whether national security policies are drafted by considering every aspect of the country's security. What should Nepal prioritize to protect its sovereignty, stability, and long-term strategic interests? And what lessons from history can help Nepal prepare for future challenges? Drawing on his experience and knowledge of Nepal's military history, Prem Singh Basnyat offers insights into national security policy, Nepal's geopolitical position, security threats, and the importance of understanding both internal and external challenges. This discussion is relevant to anyone interested in Nepal's defence policy, government priorities, political history, and current affairs. Watch the full conversation to better understand Nepal's national security framework, the legacy of the Maoist insurgency, foreign influence, and the difficult questions surrounding the country's future security.
