Lang Manman nou, Lang Peyi nou - Our Mother's Tongue

Souvni On The Mike

About

Today’s program dives into the remarkable journey of Haitian Creole — a language that survived oppression, stigma, and centuries of misunderstanding to become the official national language of Haiti. We explore the challenges Creole faced, from being dismissed as “patois” to being banned in schools, and how it rose to claim its rightful place as the voice of the Haitian people.

We’ll talk about why Creole is more than a way of speaking — it is identity, memory, resistance, and unity. And we’ll encourage every member of the Haitian community, especially those raising children in the diaspora, to continue promoting and protecting the language that carries our history and our pride.

Because when we speak Creole, we honor our ancestors, we strengthen our culture, and we keep Haiti alive in every generation.

La Famille Pòt honors the Haitian Creole language in this episode.
