🎮 A little about the game

Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks a new chapter for Capcom's samurai action series, placing players in the sandals of legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. Set in early Edo-period Kyoto, the city has been engulfed by mysterious clouds of Malice and invaded by demonic creatures known as the Genma. Musashi arrives looking to prove his mastery of the sword, but getting bound to the supernatural Oni Gauntlet gives him a considerably bigger problem to deal with.

And if Musashi looks like he belongs in a classic samurai movie, there's a good reason for that. Capcom based his appearance on legendary Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune, with Mifune Productions involved in reviewing the recreation of his likeness.

Combat is where Way of the Sword really earns its name. Swordplay emphasizes timing, parries, deflections and the series' signature Issen attacks, while the Oni Gauntlet lets Musashi absorb the souls of defeated Genma and turn them into power. Oni abilities expand his options further, including supernatural strength and agility that can be useful both during fights and while exploring Kyoto.

Capcom has also introduced Dynamic Dismemberment, allowing Musashi's blade to cut through enemies according to the trajectory of his strikes. It's brutal, deliberate and very much designed to make every successful slash feel like a sword actually connected rather than an enemy simply losing a chunk of its health bar.

There's more happening between battles, too. Players can explore a Malice-twisted interpretation of Kyoto featuring recognizable locations such as Kiyomizu-dera Temple, discover treasures, collect souls for upgrades, unlock abilities and gain new tools such as the Oni Bow, which can be used against distant enemies and for environmental puzzles.

The Genma aren't interested in making Musashi's journey easy. Alongside hordes of demonic enemies are larger threats and skilled opponents that demand more than mindless sword swinging. Some encounters reward careful parrying and timing, while others encourage players to reconsider how they're using their abilities and resources.

For longtime fans, Onimusha: Way of the Sword brings back the Oni Gauntlet, soul absorption, Genma and Issen swordplay while pushing those ideas into a modern action game. For newcomers, you don't need decades of Onimusha history under your belt to understand the assignment: Kyoto has a demon problem, Musashi has a sword, and those two things are about to meet. ⚔️👹🔥
