Devo recalls seeing a plane and telephones for the first time, navigating strict household expectations, and making sure her three daughters received the education she never had. Arriving in Cairns, the sugarcane farmland reminded her of Punjab, grounding her memories as she built a new life. In this interview, she shares her story, reflecting the courage and resilience of Punjabi women who helped shape early Punjabi life in Australia. - 23 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ 1964 'ਚ ਨਵਾਂਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲੀਆ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਦੇਵੋ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਪਰਵਾਸ ਕਹਾਣੀ 'ਚ ਕਈ ਕਿੱਸੇ ਉਭਰਕੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਦੇਵੋ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਕਿਵੇਂ 6 ਮਹੀਨੇ ਤੱਕ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਟੱਬਰ ਨੇ ਵਿਆਹ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਧੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਰੱਖਿਆ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਿਨਾਂ 'ਚ ਇੱਕਲਿਆਂ ਆਉਣ ਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਥੇ ਮੁੱਢਲੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਸ਼ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕੀਤੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਮਾਲੀ ਤੰਗੀ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਤੰਗੀ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਚੰਗੇ ਸਾਥ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਨਵੇਂ ਮੁਲਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਖਾਲਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਔਖੇ ਸਮਿਆਂ 'ਚ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਧੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਪੜਾਈ ‘ਤੇ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਧਿਆਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਗਲੀਆਂ ਪੀੜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ। ਇਸ ਪੌਡਕਾਸਟ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੁਣੋ ਦੇਵੋ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਣਾਦਾਇਕ ਕਹਾਣੀ...
