The human mind has a preoccupation with time; the progression of events contained in the three components of past, present, and future. Whether longing for “back in the day”, “live now”, or “I can’t wait for that to happen”, we each tend to be more oriented to one component over the other two by our simple, human default settings. Excess orientation to any of these can be detrimental to our lives.
We interpret time linearly with a finite beginning and end which can be terrifying for many reasons. However, there is another way to interpret time from a Buddhist perspective. It is time without beginning and time without end based on the law of cause and effect and the eternity of life. Don’t obsess about the past or long for the future. We are all works in progress so let’s all shoot for that balance, that “Middle Way.”
