3354: South Sudan Moves Toward Stronger Tobacco Control

Radio Miraya

About

South Sudan is taking steps toward ratifying the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, a global treaty aimed at reducing the health, social and economic harm caused by tobacco use. The Ministry of Health, with support from the World Health Organization, is holding a national high-level stakeholder orientation from September 1–2, 2026, to discuss the treaty and what ratification would mean for tobacco control in the country. On the Miraya Breakfast Show, Mary Dennis Obat, Director of Health Education at the Ministry of Health, and Dr Moses Mutebi of WHO explain the importance of the process and what comes next.
