Gospel Tidings – A Trap, a Coin and Two Queens – Mary Hooton and Fr Eamonn – 29th Sunday OT [Year A]

About

Mary Hutton and Fr Eamonn McCarthy take the Gospel for the 29th Sunday of Ordinary Time, in which the Pharisees and Herodians try to catch Jesus out over paying taxes to Caesar. Fr Eamonn explains why the question was a trap with no safe answer, and brings out a 50 pence coin that puzzles his congregation every time he shows it to them. Mary looks at the flattery in the question and what it leaves out, and both ask what we actually owe to the state, and what we owe to God.
