Fr Peter George Flynn tells the story of the Crozier Fathers, a medieval order of crusader-veterans who deliberately destroyed two centuries of their own records during a 1410 reform, and very nearly finished the job themselves: by 1840 only four elderly friars remained. From there the order rebuilt itself onto five continents, guided along the way by a saint whose relics were found under a pear tree in Cologne.
