About the author : Sukirat Singh Anand, widely known as Sukirat, is a distinguished Punjabi short story writer, journalist, and translator. Born in 1956, he comes from a renowned literary and political family in Punjab. His maternal grandfather was Gurbaksh Singh, the founder of the influential Punjabi literary magazine Preet Lari, while his father, Jagjit Singh Anand, was a prominent communist leader and the editor of Nawan Zamana. His mother, Urmila, was also an accomplished prose writer. From the early 1970s until the late 1990s, Sukirat lived in Moscow for nearly 24 years, where he witnessed firsthand the dramatic political and social changes that reshaped Russia. He chronicled these experiences in his memoir, My Years in Russia: A Time to Remember. Over the years, Sukirat has made significant contributions to Punjabi literature, publishing eight books of short fiction and prose that reflect his keen observations, literary depth, and unique perspective.
