Daily Devotion:
"To Live Is Christ"
Philippians 1:18
New Living Translation
18 But that doesn’t matter. Whether their motives are false or genuine, the message about Christ is being preached either way, so I rejoice. And I will continue to rejoice.
If you pay attention, you'll discover that the people who consistently experience joy in their lives are those who see the good and positive in virtually every circumstance. Paul was an expert at finding the silver lining. In this verse, he explained to his readers that the upside of certain people preaching the gospel out of less-than-perfect motives (such as self-promotion) was that the good news was being spread. And for this he rejoiced.
What do you do when things don't go as planned? Do you naturally give into self-pity and complaining, or do you adapt and make the best of it? Some people are able to acclimatizequickly which brings Joy in spite of uncomfortable circumstances. When an ice storm takes out their utility pole, they light a kerosene heater, bundle up the kids, and pile into the bed together for a slumber party. What one person callsmajor in convenience, another calls a chance for a family adventure. Let's learn from Paul to extract every bit of good out of our troubles.
