"Home"

Hebrews 12:2

New Living Translation

2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. [a] Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

Something about home just brings joy to a person's heart. And nothing is more thrilling than knowing you're on your way home after you've been gone for a time. Not all of us canphysically return to our childhood homes. Perhaps you wouldn't even desire to do so. But, as Christ followers, we are all making our way to our heavenly home. Jesus knows what it's like to be far from home. He also knows the joy of heading home. The author of Hebrews said that Jesus was able to endure the brutality of the cross because of the joy set before Him. What was the joy set before Him? It was accomplishing His purpose of offering salvation to humankind. Jesus knew that after the cross came the crown. He was heading home, it was pure joy.

Whatever you are facing in the moment, you can have joy knowing that you are only passing through. In the blink of an eye, God will swing the gates of heaven open and say, “Welcome home.”
