2 The rich and poor have this in common: The Lord made them both.
The most joyful people are those who refuse to separate others into categories-that is, the haves and have-nots. They refuse to set themselves either above or below the rest of the human race, or to see things in terms of “us” versus “them.” They understand, often because of the difficulties they've suffered in their own lives, that the bank president or the senator is only a hair's breadth-one unhappy circumstance-away from the homeless man in the soup kitchen line.
If God's given you financial security, a lucrative career, harmonious family, or lovely house, guard against overlooking others or seeing them as less important. Everyone has a story, as they say; take an interest in those stories, and you'll find that you enjoy hearing them. Find joy in people, regardless of their status or background. Don't ever stop seeing other human beings as priceless, or you'll miss out on some rewarding relationships. As the old hymn says, “The ground is level at the foot of the cross.”
