Notre Dame football fell six spots to 21st in the new College Football Playoff rankings released last night, as USC climbed into the top four after their 38-27 win over the Irish last Saturday. USC can cement a berth in the four team playoff if they can beat Utah in the PAC-12 title game Friday night. There’s also word that Irish cornerback Cam Hart will return for the 20-23 season as a grad student. Hart logged 25 tackles for loss playing in 11 of Notre Dame’s 12 games this year.


Remember, we will have a couple of key conference title games for you here this Saturday. At 3:30, it’s the SEC title game between top ranked Georgia and Brian Kelly’s LSU Tigers. At 8 Saturday evening the Big Ten title game from Indy, 2nd ranked Michigan against Purdue, all on Sports Radio 960 WSBT.


A tough assignment tonight for Notre Dame men’s basketball, as the Irish face 20th ranked Michigan State at Purcell Pavilion as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. It’s a late start tonight, a 9:15 tipoff, with Tony Simeone and crew beginning our live coverage at 8:45 on your home for Irish football and men’s basketball, Sports Radio 960 WSBT.


The 7th ranked Irish women make their contribution to the ACC/Big Ten challenge tomorrow night, hosting 20th ranked Maryland in a 6:30 tipoff. Sean Stires with the call on Live 99.9.


Also in tonight’s ACC/Big Ten Challenge, 5th ranked Purdue plays at Florida State, and 10th ranked Indiana hosts 18th ranked North Carolina in Bloomington.


The US Men’s national soccer team is through to the knockout round of 16 at the World Cup in Qatar. The US downed Iran 1-nil in what amounted to a win or go home match Tuesday, to finish second in their four team group behind England and advance. The US faces the Netherlands this Saturday in its first knockout round match. The winner moves on to the quarterfinals; the loser goes home.


NBA: the Pistons got blown out by the New York Knicks, 140-110 in Detroit. The Chicago Bulls are at Phoenix late tonight, and the Indiana Pacers are at Sacramento.


In hockey, the Chicago Blackhawks host the Edmonton Oilers tonight at the United Center in Chicago. The Redwings host the Buffalo Sabres in Detroit.
