And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10;41-42 (NKJV)
At this moment, there are endless things in competition for our attention, time and money. This can lead to confusion, worry and even anxiety. Are we Martha or Mary? Distraction causes irritation in our lives.
Why is this ”one thing” so absolutely necessary? The fact that Mary was sitting at the Savior’s feet indicates that she loved Him very much. Mary did not stand, she sat down at His feet, indicating that she was submissive to Him and recognized Him as her Lord and Sovereign. She subjected herself to His authority, truth and teaching. She sat in the place of humility. Sitting at Jesus’ feet and listening to His Word is the one thing necessary in life.
Do we believe that the only thing that is needed is to sit at Jesus’s feet? If we are not getting with Jesus and truly spending time with him it is because it’s not important to us. If it’s important to us we will make time for it.
