The sixth commandment sounds simple: “You shall not murder.” But Jesus shows us that God’s concern goes much deeper than what we do with our hands. Because every human being is made in the image of God, every life carries eternal dignity—from the child in the womb to the person we struggle to love. Exodus 20:13 calls us to protect life, speak for the vulnerable, care for mothers and families, and resist the anger and contempt that can take root in our hearts. But this commandment also exposes our own guilt. We have all failed to honor God’s image in others, and our sin ultimately led to the murder of the Author of Life. The good news is that Jesus willingly gave His life so that murderers, haters, failures, and sinners could receive forgiveness and be welcomed into God’s family. This message invites us to become people who pursue life, practice mercy, and look to the cross where justice and forgiveness meet.
