“Honor your father and your mother” - The 5th Commandment is about more than children obeying their parents. God calls us to honor our parents throughout our lives by listening, respecting, caring, and giving thanks. Yet we have all fallen short. We have rebelled against authority and trusted our own wisdom rather than believing God is truly for our good. Jesus was the perfect Son who honored his parents and obeyed his heavenly Father even to the point of death on the cross. Through him, rebellious children can come home to a Father who loves us, welcomes us, and is always for our good.
