About this episode

I know what you’re thinking, why on earth would you want to talk about Redundancy?  Well, having been through redundancy myself in the past, I’ve believed for a long time that it is something that should not be feared and therefore, let’s talk about it openly.

To help me do that, I was once again joined by 3 of the IOH’s finest in Giovanna Zakanda AIH, Anna Aufiero MIH and Nassar Khalil FIH.  All three once again gave their reasons for saying I’m in to the IOH: -

It’s a place where you can look forward and have absence of belongingSomewhere where you can lend supportThe fact that the CEO remains hands on with the IOH is positive for the futureTo be part of an industry associationTo give back to the industryThe learningThe people you meetThe Mentor me programmeThe Youth Council

The discussion around Redundancy had so many great takeaways such as: -

It is a necessary evil, there will always be situations where it is necessaryIt should be avoided at all costs and only used as an absolute last resortIt’s a time-consuming exercise when you may have to re-recruit and train in the futureLooking at moving the person into another role rather than making them redundant can be an optionIt’s not a black and white situation - there are many different scenariosIt’s there as a protection for both business and the individualThere are many scenarios when Redundancy is an appropriate optionExploring a reduction of hours through a collective consultation can work wellIt can be a painful process for the person who is tasked with making redundanciesRedundancy can be the greatest thing that happens to you in your careerIt can lead to reinventionHow an event like the Pandemic changes the gameWe have to be mindful of the impact on mental health, for all involvedThe Psychological contractAftercare needs to be in place for the person tasked with delivering the redundancy newsIt’s another area where the community of Hospitality can come together to help each other out

A huge thank you to our guests for giving up their time and opinion.

Enjoy!
