Dr. Stephanie Byerly, anesthesiologist, trauma-informed coach, and founder of The UNNUMB Method, returns to GRASP Confidence for a raw and powerful conversation about the trauma of being a woman. Like so many high achievers, she believed she could outrun her childhood. She became a physician, nurtured others the way she was never nurtured, and built the career, the family, and the white picket fence. Then she reached the top and realized she no longer knew who she was.

"The pain of where I am is greater than the pain of actually starting to look at this now."

Stephanie explains why shame for women isn't just an emotion but an identity, and how it fuels a cycle of lack and isolation. She breaks down the four most common inner barriers (I'm not enough, I'm too much, I'm not visible, I'm alone) and how they shape the way women walk into every meeting, every relationship, and every opportunity. We also talk about the "achiever identity," why gratitude has been weaponized to keep women quiet, and how the nervous system keeps us performing for safety.

Tara opens up with a story she has never shared on the podcast: as a young girl reading a science magazine, a doctor she admired told her she didn't need to study because her mom married at 18, and so would she. That one moment created an inner ceiling she carried for years without knowing it.

"It's not safe for women to be in their bodies."

You'll walk away with practical ways to start rewiring your brain, including separating fact from story, closing your mental tabs before bed, protecting yourself from vicarious trauma and doom scrolling, getting back into your body, and choosing a vision over New Year's resolutions.

"I don't need anybody to tell me that I'm worthy. I know I'm worthy. The day I was born, I was worthy."
