What the Jaedyn Shaw transfer means for Gotham FC and the NWSL

Full Time: A show about women's soccer

About

After 237 days as a North Carolina Courage player, Jaedyn Shaw is on her way to NJ/NY Gotham FC for an NWSL-record transfer fee of $1.25 million. But what does this blockbuster transfer mean for player, club and league?

On this week's Full Time podcast, The Athletic's Tamerra Griffin is joined by Melanie Anzidei to break down the Shaw trade, why it was a surprise, and why the player had to move on from North Carolina after such a short spell. Tamerra and Melanie also talk Nealy Martin switching New Jersey for Southern California, and Bay FC head coach Albertin Montoya announcing he will be stepping down.

Then after that, Gotham FC general manager Yael Averbuch West hops on the podcast to take listeners inside the Shaw trade, talk about how long Gotham had been impressed by Shaw, explain why Gotham made the signing happen now, and unpack the nuances of balancing NWSL salary cap and transfer budgets.
