LIKELY IMPACTING THE RESERVAL ON MASKING BY SUPERINTENENT REYKDAL ARE NOVEMBER DISTRICT-LEVEL TEST SCORES IN READING AND MATH RELEASED LAST WEEK, THE FIRST TESTS SINCE INSLEE'S LOCKDOWN ORDERS IN MARCH 20-20.

WASHINGTON POLICY CENTER ANALYSIS SHOWS THAT SEVENTY PERCENT OF STUDENTS FAILED TO MEET MATH STANDARD STATEWIDE AND THAT WAS TRUE IN ALL CLALLAM COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND ALL BUT ONE JEFFERSON COUNTY DISTRICT UNDER DOCTOR ALLISON BERRY'S HEALTH PURVIEW.

STATEWIDE NEARLY HALF OF STUDENTS FAILED TO MEET STANDARD IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILLS WITH WEST END DISTRICT STUDENTS DOING WORSE ON AVERAGE.

THE SEATTLE SCHOOL DISTRICT WITH THE HIGHEST PER-STUDENT SPEND HAS FIFTY SEVEN PERCENT OF STUDENTS FAILING MATH AND FORTY PERCENT FAILED ENGLISH, SO A LOT MORE MONEY DOESN'T REALLY SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF LOST EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVMENT THAT HAS STATE OFFICIALS AHEAD OF DOCTOR BERRY'S COMFORT LEVEL ON RESCENDING THESE POLICIES.

TWICE ELECTED TO THE STATEWIDE OFFICE, CHRIS REYKDAL IS A FORMER EDUCATOR AND DEMOCRAT STATE HOUSE MEMBER WHO IS RAISING TWO KIDS WITH HIS WIFE KIM. SHE'S A MEMBER OF THE TUMWATER SCHOOL BOARD AND A NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED SCHOOL CONSOLOR. BECAUSE OF WHAT WE'VE LEARNED ABOUT SCHOOL MASK MANDATES, INCLUDING THE MENTAL HEALTH IMPACTS, OF SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS REYKDAL SAYS:

reykdal mask optional :05

BUT DOCTOR ALISON BERRY DISAGREES AND SAID SHE HAD SPOKEN WITH HEALTH OFFICERS ACROSS THE STATE THAT SAY NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO LIFT SCHOOL MASKING MANDATES.

CONTRARY TO HER UNVACCINATED INDOOR DINING DISCRIMINATION IMPOSEDONLY TO CLALLAM AND JEFFERSON BUT NOT NEIGHBORING COUNTIES, SCHOOL MASKING POLICY MADE ON A LOCAL LEVEL "LEADS TO A LOT MORE DISCORD WHEN WE SEE A SPOTTY APPLICATION OF POLICIES," BERRY SAID.

BERRY ANNOUNCED THAT HEALTH OFFICERS ACROSS THE STATE PLAN TO MEET SOON TO DISCUSS THE METRIC FOR WHEN SCHOOL MASK MANDATES CAN AND SHOULD BE LIFTED. SHE DIDN'T IDENTIFY ANY OF THEM, AND A NEWS SEARCH SINCE THEN SHOWS THE P-D-N COVERAGE OF BERRY'S COMMENTS ARE THE ONLY HEALTH OFFICER PUBLISHED CRITIQUES OF THE RECENT CALL BY SUPERENTENDENT OF SCHOOL CHRIS REYKDAL.
