Ru: В самом сердце Санкт-Петербурга, в период белых ночей, город оживал.
En: In the heart of Saint Petersburg, during the period of the white nights, the city came alive.
Ru: Светлые небеса, серые каналы и мерцающие огни складывались в сказочную картину.
En: Bright skies, gray canals, and shimmering lights formed a fairytale picture.
Ru: В одной из таких ночей начинался фестиваль.
En: On one such night, a festival began.
Ru: Это была Пасха, и колокола звонили по всему городу.
En: It was Easter, and bells rang throughout the city.
Ru: Николай, худощавый реставратор искусства, шел по набережной канала.
En: Nikolai, a slender art restorer, walked along the canal embankment.
Ru: В его руках был бумажный лист, сильно помятый – письмо от деда.
En: In his hands was a crumpled paper sheet—a letter from his grandfather.

En: It contained family secrets that Nikolai was supposed to learn.
