Did Jesus deliberately enter Jerusalem knowing it would lead to the Cross?
When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowd welcomed Him like a king. Garments were spread on the road. Palm branches were waved. And the cry echoed through the city:
“Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.”
But if this was a moment of triumph, why does it lead to the Cross?
In this episode, we revisit the events of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and the cleansing of the Temple through the insights of Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) in Jesus of Nazareth: Holy Week.
Together, we explore why these events were not accidental. From the deliberate choice of a donkey to the messianic cries of the pilgrims, and from the prophetic act in the Temple to the rising tension with the authorities, the Gospel begins to reveal something deeper: Jesus was not simply caught in the events of Holy Week. He was revealing who He truly was, and where His mission was leading.
Sometimes the road to the Cross does not begin with defeat, but with revelation.
