Extra Day, The by Algernon Blackwood (1869 - 1951)

This is less a Horror story, but rather a whimsical fantasy. The Story centres on three young children, who seem to be waiting for something marvellous to happen; the imagination of all the characters explores what for adults might seem nostalgic, but for children a fairy tale. It's beautifully written, and could almost be called psychological prose, designed to make the reader explore their perception of the world. - Summary by Andrew Sames
