This week on Direction Not Perfection we’re doing something new—what I’m calling a podcast study. Instead of rushing past valuable content, we’re slowing down, taking notes, and really digesting what we hear.

We’re starting with Eliza Kingsford’s podcast Brain Powered Weight Loss. Eliza is a psychotherapist who specializes in the nervous system, and her 8-part series on weight loss fundamentals is pure gold. I can’t wait to walk through it with you.

Here are three big takeaways we’ll be unpacking together:

1️⃣ Leaky Holes in Your Bucket
You can pour in all the nutrition and exercise you want, but if “holes” like poor sleep, an all-or-nothing mindset, or lack of boundaries aren’t addressed, the progress leaks right out.

2️⃣ Weight Loss Fundamentals
Most of us jump straight to meal plans and workouts, but how consistent are we at the basics—hydration, sleep, resiliency, showing up day after day? Without these fundamentals, advanced strategies fall flat.

3️⃣ The Mental Load
This might be the missing piece. It’s the hidden emotional and cognitive weight we carry every day—managing work, family, expectations, and more. Starting a new plan isn’t just about food choices, it’s about the extra energy drain it adds to an already full plate.

💡 This week’s challenge: When you listen to a podcast, don’t just “hear” it. Take notes. Journal. Ask yourself how it connects to your own health journey. You’ll be amazed at what sticks when you give yourself permission to process.

👉 I’ve linked Eliza’s podcast below so you can dive in yourself. I promise—it’s worth your pen and paper.
